YIN YOGA teacher TRAINING & IMMERSION – 100 hour
Fundamentals of Yin: Promoting Health and Healing at a Cellular Level
With Simon Low
Foundations and Advances in the Practice and Teaching of Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga has become one of the most popular approaches to yoga as a deep antidote and personal support for body, breath and mind within today’s stressful, fatigued and goal-orientated world, and as an essential balance to a dynamic, muscular yoga asana practice. Yin yoga can also be very effectively & seamlessly informed by Somatics, & the deep well of ancient & contemporary meditation teachings.
Simon Low's emphasises an intelligent, anatomically-sound, somatic approach, with particular reference to the myo-fascial body, joint care, the energy (or subtle) body, and the incorporation of pranayama and meditation within the yin practice, while cultivating the physical, energetic and psycho-spiritual benefits of yin yoga.
Simon’s multi-faceted approach is profoundly restorative, revitalising and reintegrative, promoting health and healing at a cellular level. His approach is essentially different to many other teachers: he will guide you to cultivate more ease & flexibility around joints, favoring an integration of gentle ground-based movement sequences. The way he teaches yin asana is deeply restorative and leans on a kind and sensitive approach to stimulating the tissues while invoking the innate willingness & potential of the body’s positive response, both during & after the practice.
The impact of de-stabilization around joints as a result of over-zealous yin practice must always be avoided. This common error when teaching Yin Yoga is one aspect of the contra-indications that will be addressed within this course.
As founder of The Yoga Academy in London, it is part of their 100-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, recognised by Yoga Alliance US or can be taken as hours counted towards Continuing Professional Development with The British Wheel of Yoga. Of course, it also offers itself as a deep personal learning-retreat experience.

Somatics
Students often arrive to Yin class after a busy day, or with busy minds and eternally projected awareness. Somatic education practices are a perfect way to begin Yin yoga classes. They help students cultivate concentration, internalize the senses, and awaken the ‘feeling mind’. This can lead to a deeper experience of ‘presence’ with the more still yin asana that can follow. These practices are superfood for the brain and the nervous system.
Meditation Teaching and Yin Practice.
Many yoga students are keen to discover practices that help them begin or reconnect to the journey of meditation. Within the yin asana and seated periods in yoga classes, a natural pathway toward a regular meditation practice is revealed.
Students often encounter too much or too little verbal support or guidance from their teacher within a yin yoga, or even meditation class. Guided practices with themed spoken content can sometimes be too complex, too distracting, and even sometimes inappropriate. The voice is central when teaching yin yoga, and it is essential to create a safe and supportive space for students to fully immerse themselves into the frequencies of meditation within yin asana class. Finding the right balance between ‘holding the space’ and ‘teaching a class’ , and between ‘silence & speech’ are essential prerequisites for learning and authentic experience.
Contemporary anatomical research and understanding reconfirms the ‘whole’ body teachings of yoga, expressed dynamically through our ubiquitous fascial being and its myriad of functions, forms, fluids, magic and mystery. We will explore the latest research on the fascial body with Simon Low joined by the lively and uniquely informed Gary Carter, the international anatomy teacher & researcher who recently created the world’s first full-body fascia plastination in Berlin.
You will have a much clearer understanding of the optimal anatomically-sound approach to yin practice which will be reflected by the popularity of the approach that you will be prepared to share.
Gary Carter has taught for The Yoga Academy alongside Simon Low for over 20 years.
