Barbara Houtzager

Barbara, originally a sports enthusiast, started taking her first yoga class about 15 years ago, looking for some relaxation besides all the sporting efforts she did. What surprised her is that yoga is not just relaxation; it is also about physical and mental strength. It's about stillness and about movement.

As a sports scientist, always interested in the human body, she became curious about what else yoga had to offer and travelled to India in 2017. There she accomplished the 200 HRS Hatha Teacher training at Arhanta Yoga®, which made her excited to share the benefits of yoga with others. This fall Barbara also joined the Hot Hatha teacher training at Yoga Moves.

The influence of yoga on your posture and mental state in daily life is her main motivation. “Try to relax
during the effort” you hear her say regularly in her classes. You will also recognize her knowledge of the human body, with verbal directions and personal clues and suggestions for correct alignment. Her enthusiasm makes you explore your limits, but at the same time she ensures safety so that you do not trespass them. She regularly concludes her classes with a sung Body Scan, so that you leave the yoga studio completely relaxed, but full of energy.
