Somatic Solutions for Stress

Your nervous system has two sides. The ‘doing’ side sends you out into the world to work, play, and be active. The ‘being’ side takes care of relaxation, recuperation and healing.

Stress is what happens when your body’s natural ability to balance ‘being’ and ‘doing’ is overpowered.

This workshop investigates three unconscious responses to stress and examines how they affect your posture and movement. You’ll learn how to recognise them and explore embodied solutions for lasting change. Learn how to make the unconscious conscious and feel how everything becomes easier from your head to your toes! Experience for yourself the embodied intelligence of your soma. The afternoon practice focuses on how somatics is such an exquisitely intelligent preparation for yoga asana.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn about the three primary stress reflexes in the body – what they are – and how they influence your posture and movement. 

  • Investigate sensory-motor amnesia: the nervous system response to injury and trauma.

  • Develop your sixth sense and your body intelligence.

  • Find freedom from pain, tension, and contraction.

  • Learn to pandiculate instead of stretch.

  • Discover flexibility, balance, and coordination. 

  • Investigate the embodied anatomy of your muscles, bones, fascia and breath. 

  • Create natural and impeccable alignment. 

  • Practise gentle somatic exercises for injury rehabilitation and common conditions

  • Discover new and creative sequences for your Yoga/movement practice and teaching.

  • Take a somatic journey towards self-sensing and self-healing. 

  • Cultivate three Super Powers: curiosity, exploration and self-inquiry. 

    Come move, play and find out for yourself what somatics can do for your practice and teaching. The afternoon practice focuses how somatics is such an exquisitely intelligent preparation for yoga asana.

    Who is this for?
    We welcome students and teachers of movement including yoga, pilates and dance, as well as physio/physical therapists, massage and craniosacral therapists, osteopaths, psychotherapists, mindfulness teachers, gym instructors, occupational therapists, doctors, nurses and anyone interested in the mind-body connection. This workshop is also suitable for anyone who experiences pain or tension in their body. It is not suitable for anyone who is currently experiencing chronic debilitating pain.
