How does the practice of yoga impact your sense of having a meaningful life?

Meaning

“The Bushmen in the Kalahari Desert talk about the two “hungers”.
There is the Great Hunger and there is the Little Hunger.
The Little Hunger wants food for the belly; but the Great Hunger, the greatest hunger of all, is the hunger for meaning…
There is ultimately only one thing that makes human beings deeply and profoundly bitter, and that is to have thrust upon them a life without meaning.
There is nothing wrong in searching for happiness.
But of far more comfort to the soul is something greater than happiness or unhappiness, and that is meaning.
Because meaning transfigures all. Once what you are doing has for you meaning, it is irrelevant whether you’re happy or unhappy. You are content – you are not alone, in your Spirit – you belong.”

How does the practice of yoga impact your sense of having a meaningful life?

By Hilary Brown

Do you sometimes mistake the search for happiness with the search for meaning? Have you identified what is meaningful in your life? And what less so? Have you made conscious decisions based on your purpose values instead of your pleasure values?

These and many other ways of understanding purpose, meaning, belonging and the soulful way of living is what makes Max Strom such an important teacher in our time. Yoga and breathing are key pillars in his work, but these are in fact tools to support your meaningful life, not the other way around.

One of Max’s tenants is that we often cover up our deeper values, either through habits, culture or just simply forgetting to remember what is important. The simple act of spending some t i m e asking the right questions can change your life. And Max is a master of asking the right questions.

His approach to yoga is direct, simple, and effective. He also knows how to use the tools of yoga and breathing to target or release the emotions and address the thoughts or mind as much as the body. In essence, it is authentic yoga.
