Jeanine Smit
Jeanine first started practicing yoga in 2005. Coming from a background of endurance sports, she was drawn to the demanding Ashtanga Yoga practice.
She likes to describe herself as ‘non-yogamonomous’ since over time, she branched out and discovered her softer side with Yin Yoga, practicing kindness and compassion inward and outward.
In 2019, she found joy in Aerial Yoga and while Ashtanga remains the stable backbone of her practice, she loves the freedom and lightness that the challenging yet playful practice of Aerial Yoga brings her. In the HOT studio, she loves the intensity of the Hot Hatha sequence as the heat takes her right back to tropical Suriname, which is her home country.
Always remaining a yoga student herself, she has yoga teaching certifications in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Tapasya Hot Yoga, I-Rest Yoga Nidra and more. She has also completed her training as a Running Coach and Mindfulness trainer.
Her teaching style can be described as gentle, lighthearted, and playful. Although she uses precise cueing to guide you into the pose, the focus remains on how the pose feels and works for you rather than its outward appearance. She has the tendency to sprinkle snippets of mindfulness throughout her teachings and uses her soothing voice to guide to guide you in a deep restful state of yoga Nidra. Kindness, compassion and acceptance are at the heart of her practice and teachings as she feels that a peaceful world starts with ourselves.
