  • Arrive well hydrated. Hydration is essential to replace fluids lost through sweating. Bring a water bottle to class and drink when needed.
  • Re-hydrate after class. Take care to replace lost electrolytes. Coconut water is recommended.
  • It is not recommended to eat anything heavy less than 2 hours before class. Blood will be directed away from the muscles to the stomach for digestion.
  • Avoid drinking diuretics such as tea, coffee and alcohol before class.
  • Sweating is to be expected so you may want to bring a towel to class with you. We require that you have a mat towel to place over your yogamat, you can rent or buy one from us. Rental Mat towels from reception are €4
  • Dress appropriately. Synthetic athletic/yoga clothing that can wick away the sweat is recommended over cotton. Please no bikinis.
  • Clean your mat and area around your mat after practice.

Have fun! Yoga is about finding balance. Respect your body and its limits, tell your teacher about any injuries you may have and enjoy your practice

Benefits of Yoga Moves Hot + Infrared heat

  • Sweat out toxins, such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid, whilst increasing your metabolism and heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout and improved blood circulation.
  • Stretch & strengthen safely. The conscious exercise of the yoga practise plus the infrared heaters serve to build strength and increase flexibility. Each pose is held for up to a minute promoting balance, endurance and focus – physically and mentally.
  • Align your body: we teach a safe, alignment based practice, which systematically works your entire body in the best way for you, promoting joint safety and overall sense of feeling good.
  • Transform everything: Your mind and body are going to thank you. As you detoxify and balance the body will have more space for refreshed energy where change can happen.

What is Yoga Moves Hot?

Using heat in yoga is not new, but, rather than just turning up the heat, we have been very careful in choosing a system of hot yoga and a type of heat that is safe, accessible and aligned with our values. Yoga Moves Hot is a powerful and nurturing practice for all levels, which facilitates safe, deep stretching and a detoxifying sweat. Following specific alignment and timing principles you will systematically work and rejuvenate your entire body, cultivating balance, strength and flexibility. Yoga Moves hot is an alignment-based yoga practise based on the Tapasya method. The far infrared heat used in Yoga Moves Hot helps create a different kind of hot yoga. The body (rather than the air) is heated by infrared waves. Coupled with yoga it makes the body feel hot, producing a detoxifying sweat at a more tolerable intensity than other hot yoga classes, leaving you refreshed with a healthy glow. The room will be warm, heated to approximately 38-40C for Hot Hatha and 30-35C for Hot Hatha Vinyasa.

Is HOT Yoga Moves for everyone?

Yes and no. The practice is very accessible practice that most everyone can do, young and old. Some people have conditions that mean they should stay out of the heat or not do yoga now: like pregnancy, high blood pressure (ask your doctor), other conditions.

What is the difference with other hot yoga like Bikram?

It’s always hard to compare yoga. We believe all yoga is in principle good yoga! We work in a state of the art Infra-Red heated room which is a different kind of heat than you might find in other studios. (see below). The yoga we practice has some Bikram postures in it but we work with an alignment-based approach, which means we start with the foundation and work up. We rather you do less with awareness than push you to your “edge” without awareness. We are committed to a long-term view of practicing without unnecessary injuries that can come from pushing too much.

Yoga Moves offers variation to fit everyone’s needs. You can choose for classes of 60, 75 or 90 minutes in our Yoga Moves Hot sequence or a Hot Vinyasa. Yogi’s choice!  And we don’t pay gurus franchise fees ☺

“I don’t like being hot”

Even people who love warm environments need to get used to this special heat. When starting this practice, and always, take your time. Rest if needed. Notice any tension that comes from your ideas about things: is it true? Or is it your mind sabotaging your potential success? You are in charge. We won’t force you… Consider looking at your resistance, ask yourself: is it my body telling me something, or my mind keeping me “small” or avoiding potential bliss? We do recommend that everyone balance his or her preferred practice (hot or not) with another style each week. The key is balance.

What is Infra-Red heating?

Infrared heat differs from radiant heat in that the heat warms the body (not the air) providing for a breathable efficient therapeutic work out. They are healthier than traditional forms of heat, as they do not blow dust or allergens. Infrared is simply the transfer of heat from a warm object to a cooler object. The heat is a product of a completely safe spectrum of light that is invisible to our eyes.

Therapeutic relief from infra-red heating

Odds are you have experienced the soothing feeling of warm summer sun on your skin. Our heaters, like the sun, produce radiant heat waves, which work to heat up water. Because the human body is made up of mostly water, this infrared heat transfers extremely effectively and can help gently increase blood circulation, rid the body of toxins and even provide pain relief. People have reported skin problems like psoriasis going away after only a few sessions!

In October 2016 Yoga Moves opened a second studio in Utrecht. This beautiful studio in Oost has two rooms, of which one is designed specifically for hot yoga.

Infrared

This spacious room has floor heating and infrared heating panels. Infrared heat differs from radiant heat in that the heat warms the body (not the air). This provides a breathable efficient therapeutic yoga practice.  And that sweat that is pouring off your body, is real sweat that you actually worked for.

~ Joris
