Somatic Explorations: Exploring the Mind - Be Present

With Liliana Nuño

Once the deepest tensions have been released from the body through organic stability, we can turn our attention to the mind, recognizing the flow of thoughts, sensations and emotions.

In this workshop we introduce inverted postures using the Bandhas. In addition, we go deeper into the Pranayama techniques and introduce the basics of meditation practice. We will get acquainted with the Koshas, i.e., the five layers that human nature consists of in Vedante philosophy. We will explore how these layers are intrinsically connected and affect each other as a whole.

 We will:

  • Study inverted postures

  • Explore the following Pranayama techniques:

    • Suxsmarexaka

    • Suxsmapuraka

    • Ujjayi breathing

  • Introduce the five Koshas

  • This is the last of a series of workshops Liliana will offer. You are welcome to join one or more in any order.

The whole series is meant to offer you a glimpse into what Somatic Education is, from her perspective and to offer a taste into this work. Liliana plans to offer a 100-hour training in 2023 and this is a good opportunity to see if this is something for you to join.

  • In these four workshops you will get acquainted with the somatic method called OSSEUS, which approaches yoga practice as somatic re-education. Developed by Liliana, movement is approached from the inside out: through self-inquiry. You learn about the biomechanics of the body and are invited to be aware of your actions from moment to moment, that is, to bring deep awareness into your practice. This can have a great impact on your health; reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Throughout life, the brain is constantly modifying and organizing responses to stimulus through experience (patterns) and learning (remembering). Somatic re-education helps re-program the brain to body connection and helps us let go of old dysfunctional patterns, and organically restore the structural and functional integrity of the body.

In these workshops we use the body to bring the mind into the present moment.

We explore how to organize all segments of the body around the vertical axis: the spine and the relationship with the three biggest structures of the body: head, rib-cage and pelvis. This process of structural integration organizes the body, and gradually life as a whole. The whole process helps to bring about somatic and psychological changes. Practice based on constant awareness will help us understand the roots of true happiness.

Discover how you approach your yoga practice reflects the way you live. If we approach our body with love, it responds in an incredible way, revealing all its wisdom in the light of our awareness.
