Mysore is the method for learning the Ashtanga Self Practice that is developed in Mysore, India. In a Mysore class, each student has an individualized practice which is developed and overseen by the teacher. Postures are being performed by the students individually as they are mastered.
The student gradually builds a personal Self Practice. During Mysore, students of all levels practice at their own pace and the teacher is available to help with the postures by means of hands on adjustments and reminding students of sequencing. A Mysore practice is developed slowly over time so that the student is able to memorize sequencing and the body is able to adapt to the postures.
A common misconception about the Mysore practice is that you need to know the Primary Series to attend. Mysore is appropriate for beginners as well as students of all levels and is the traditional method of learning yoga, one on one from teacher to student.

After Debby found Ashtanga yoga, she was immediately hooked. Both the dynamic and meditative aspect appealed to her. After practicing for some years, she realised Ashtanga works on an even deeper level. The ashtanga practice gives her more stability, flexibility and peace of mind, on and off the mat.
In her own practice and in her classes she focuses on the breath and body awareness. She believes a softer approach lasts longer. After all, we get only one body per lifetime, so we should be kind to it. With her Thai Massage background you can expect hands-on adjustments and maybe even a little massage treatment in Savasana ;-).
Debby completed the Ashtanga based Teacher Training with Brian Cooper at Yoga Moves in 2015. She is a direct student of R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. When possible she practices with international teachers like Luke Jordan and Gibran Gonzalez. But it’s thanks to Marilou and Jurre that the love for Ashtanga got ignited. Besides teaching yoga, she also gives Thai Massage in the tradition of her teacher Pichest Boonthumme.

Over the years, Marilou van Hoek has developed a great passion for Ashtanga Yoga and Pranayama Practice, which she both integrates in her daily life and teachings. She teaches Mysore Style, Primary Series, Ashtanga Led and Pranayama Classes, as well as Workshops at Yoga Moves and other Yoga Studios in Holland. She always teaches with a lot of love!
