Foundations of Prana Vinyasa: Embodying the Flow

With Coral Brown

Explore and unpack both a lunar and a solar Foundations sequence for each of the five elements.

The Prana Vinyasa® methodology of sequencing takes its inspiration from the elements. This module will explore and unpack both a lunar and a solar Foundations sequence for each of the five elements. We will practice and teach the Foundations Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space Prana Vinyasa sequences. Students will use these Foundations sequences to learn the multi-dimensional Wave Sequencing approach, deepen their understanding of Energetic Alignment through hands on assists and asana breakdown, as well as refining the Dancing Warriors, and Surya Namaskar that were introduced in the Art of Namaskar module.

In this module, teachers begin to

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the Three-Part Vinyasa and Vinyasa Krama theories to support teaching to all levels
  • Learn how to build a class using Prana Vinyasa wave sequencing with focus on opening movement meditation, classical and dancing warrior namaskars, core cultivation and developing a peak asana
  • Teach and learn hands on assists for the primary alignment actions of the core “blueprint” asanas in each sequence with skill, effectiveness, fluency, and creativity
  • Integration Surya Namaskar variations as well as the Dancing Warrior Namaskars
  • Practice and begin to teach 10 sequences: 5 solar and 5 lunar.
  • Study the physical, emotional, and mental impact and responses to embodying the elements through yoga asana
  • Learn the Foundation Earth Prana Vinyasa sequences centered in the hip-opening family of asanas
  • Immerse in learning the Foundation Water Prana Vinyasa sequences, which awaken the fluid spine, front body, side-waist, shoulder and heart opening.
  • Learn to connect the hip-opening family to the arm-balance family of asanas in the Foundation Fire sequences
  • Explore how the Foundation Air Prana Vinyasa sequences unite the back-bending and standing balance families of asanas
  • Learn the Foundation Space sequences for for deep integration and regeneration through standing balances
  • Learn to edit the foundation sequences based on an integrated understanding of wave sequencing, kramas, and families of asanas
  • Continue to develop skills of basic anatomy to understand the way prana flows in the muscles, bones and fascia, for embodiment within the asanas
